(Heelies on stage sipping a matcha latte) Bless the grooviest of times, my Ladies, Gentlemen, and Distinguished Patrons.
I am here to answer some of my most Frequently Asked Questions!
Why are you called “Edon?”
Back in 2016, I needed a username for my art Instagram. Since I was working on what would become Purgatory, “Tales from Edonmej”, I used it as the basis and called myself Edon Illustrations.
Unfortunately, it stuck, and now I get funny looks for naming the setting after me. Oops!
How long have you been drawing for?
Since Ouran Highschool Hostclub first aired on Netflix. I blame discovering Naruto in middle school for really sealing my fate, however. Thanks, Madara Uchiha.
What’s your stance on Generative AI?
The fanbase is insufferable, the source material is toxic, and literally nobody asked for it.
In the words of a friend – “We could have had JARVIS,” but instead, we get sloppy Subway art sandwiches and people are calling themselves chefs. There is no faster way for me to lose respect for a person or something than seeing a poster made with AI. ‘They can’t even afford a graphic designer.’
I try to not mistake incompetence for maliciousness, but there is a point where it doesn’t matter anymore and the damage has been done.
TL;DR – Cast it into the fire, Frodo.
What are your favourite fandoms?
I blame James Cameron’s Avatar for my obsession with bioluminescence.
I blame Naruto for making me wear a forehead protector to school.
I profusely thank Rick Riordan, and kiss his ghostwriter’s knuckles for their good work in 2010 writing the Percy Jackson series & the Kane Chronicles.
I elope with Minecraft, but have a messy divorce two months after the honeymoon that passionately rekindles once every year.
I firmly shake Bethesda’s hand for rereleasing Skyrim for the thousandth time, and wash my hands afterwards.
Why did you start writing?
Daydreaming in the library while reading books was the best way to pass time as a kid. I started writing down my ideas as a joke, and after eight years I had written 62 distinct spinoffs with my characters, totaling over a million words. Eventually, I realized that I should… Probably write the canon novels so people can start to learn about the characters I love, instead of making another modern AU or sequel.
Fun fact: I don’t believe in writing sad endings. There’s enough pain in the world already, I don’t need to add to it. That being said – I love making characters suffer >:}c The angst brings out the sweet parts, like adding salt to pastry dough.
Are you going to make a webcomic one day?
It’s one of my most aspirational goals, but a webcomic is like having a child, and I am a wine aunt at best.
What is the biggest piece of advice you can give someone starting a new hobby?
Biggest piece of advice I can give- If you don’t do it for the giggles, it will never get done. Do it as a joke or do it never. You can edit a bad manuscript, but not a blank page. Say the magic words with me, kids!
“Ha ha, wouldn’t it be funny if I…?”
(Exeunt stage left, pursued by bear.)
